Frequently Asked Questions

There are many types of questions that we have been asked over the years that deserve great answers.  We invite you to ask all you desire to know.  We believe there are no bad questions and that if you don't ask then you'll never learn.  We understand too that many of the players that come to us are under the age of 18 and therefore need parent permission.  Because of this parents will have many questions about the game.   Here are the answers.

01

Is Paintball Safe?

Yes, with some qualifications.

Paintball is very safe as long as you follow the rules and use common sense. Any severe injuries come from people simply not following rules - usually removing their mask when they shouldn't. There are, of course, minor injuries such as strains and sprains that are associated with all action sports and paintballs can leave minor bruises.  As a whole, paintball is very safe, does not lead to major injuries and only hurts a little bit. In fact, based on severe sport-related injuries that lead to emergency room visits, paintball is safer than bowling.

02

Do I need a waiver and where do I go once I get to camp?

All players need to sign a waiver.  Players under 18 must have their waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian before they can play.  No players may enter the field if they don't have a signed waiver turned in to the field referees.

Once you arrive at Camp Canyonview follow the fork in the road to the right towards the Office.  Go down the hill.  Once at the bottom turn right and go across the bridge.  Follow the road to the right and go past the gym, past the baseball field and past the cabins.  Park in the grass on the far side of Elk cabin.  Walk up the hill to your left.  Once at the top you will be at the paintball field.

03

Does it hurt to get hit with a paintball?

Sometimes. While a player will usually feel a slight sting that will quickly fade - similar to a firm flick on the arm - paintballs can also cause welts and bruises depending on the speed of the ball, the distance the ball travels, and where on your body the ball hits. To keep things fun and safe, be sure to keep your gun firing slower than 280 feet per second, and never shoot people from less than 20 feet away.  How much a paintball hurts also depends on how much padding or protection you wear. We offer Camo Chest protectors for rent.  This allows each player to wear "armor" and aids in covering a large part of where you are likely to be hit.

04

Do Paintballs stain clothes?

Paintballs generally will not stain clothing or fabrics. I have found that certain brands of paintballs will stain certain light-colored fabrics. This is dependent upon the dye used in coloring the fill and the fabric. I have found that cheaper paints are more likely to stain white cotton or cotton/poly fabrics. I have never seen a paintball stain a dark-colored fabric. A good rule of thumb is to not play paintball with light clothing and you shouldn't have a problem. We also have found that washing your clothing quickly after your day will reduce or eliminate stains even in light colored fabrics.

05

Are Paintballs biodegradable?

Paintballs are completely biodegradable and will wash away from most surfaces with water or will vanish after a rainstorm. Paintballs are gelatin capsules filled with an oil or polyethylene glycol (the base of cough syrups) and food-coloring dye mixture. Both the shells and the fill will naturally biodegrade and will not leave lasting marks on the environment.
